December 10, 2019 - Human Rights Day on December 10th annually seeks to honor the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
The key elements of UDHR assistance program is to promote respect for human rights and have redress mechanisms in place for human rights violations in countries affected.
Young people represent the bulk of the population in many developing countries and in several parts of the world youth are not involved in any decision-making process, nor do they have a voice.
Nonetheless, young people stand up for rights and against racism, hate speech, bullying and discrimination, and have taken a lead role advocating for climate action.
Speaking at UN Headquarters during an event to mark Human Rights Day, the Secretary-General António Guterres urged governments to “invest in progress and hope” by paying attention to youth and engaging with them.
On this Human Rights Day, it is but appropriate to recognize the leadership and courageous efforts of young people to Stand Up for Human Rights.
For our part we can commit to do all that we can as individuals and organizations to make sure that young people have safe and inclusive spaces and can participate in decisions that affect their wellbeing, listen to them and respect them.
