The provincial coroner’s office should “consider” calling inquests into the deaths of three migrant workers who contracted COVID-19 last year, a review led by the office’s own deputy chief coroner has recommended.
If met, the call would represent a change in course for the Office of the Chief Coroner, which has never held an inquest into the death of a migrant worker in the province.
In the case of one of the deaths last year, the office initially ruled it did not warrant an investigation “because COVID-19 is a natural disease,” according to the report released Tuesday.
