On June 1, 2012, Quebec’s Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) implemented provisions that allow some temporary workers who are present in Quebec to submit an application to renew or extend their work authorizations in Canada without the employer having to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) or Service Canada (SC) and a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) from MIFI.
The instructions have been updated to modify the eligibility criteria to allow applicants who are on maintained status or eligible for restoration as a worker to qualify for this Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) exemption.
