The Jewish Festival of Lights starts today, honoring the Maccabees’ dedication of the Second Temple of Jerusalem after they took it back in an uprising. In preparing the Temple, the people found only enough oil to light the menorah for one night, but it lasted for eight. The Hanukkah menorah recalls that miracle.
